Description
The moonfish get its name from the crescent shaped dark spot at the base of the tail which is more noticeable in the yellow colored variety, they are also known as Platies.
They are very peaceful and mix quite well with most aquarium fish and are one of the best beginner’s fish you can buy, they are a nice addition to any tank with their lovely bright colors.
There are many different varieties, Gold Crescent Moon, Red Moon, Red Wag Moon, Mickey Mouse Moon to name but a few.
Housing
Moonfish require plenty of swimming room and a few bushy plants so they can hide to feel secure.
They do not need a large tank as they only grow up to 2” the temperature of the tank should be (75-80) with one tablespoon of salt per gallon added, although they can live without salt.
Feeding
The Moonfish can eat either fresh or flaked food, live plants, Brine Shrimp, and Bloodworms, also include lots of Algae and other vegetation.
