
Clown Fish
The Clown fish is very popular with most tropical fish enthusiast, this is mainly due to the cute little character Clown fish featured in the film Finding Nemo, but do not be fooled by his cute little actions, he can be very aggressive when protecting his territory.
These beautiful fish are to be found in the warmer waters of the Indian ocean or the Pacific ocean, where they live on the bottom of the sea among the Anemone in perfect harmony.
They don’t seem to get stung from the tentacles this is due to the Clown fish having a slimy mucus coating, in fact the Anemone help to protect these little fish from other predators in the sea while they swim in between them and eat the anemones left over fish.
There are so many different varieties of Clown fish and they come in a wide variety of colors from beautiful bright yellow, gold, red and a maroon shade with a white strips.
The most common ones sold in most pet shops are the Amphiprion Ocellaris, and grow between 2 – 5 inches and have a lifespan of 3 – 5 years. When you purchase your Clown fish, keep in mind that these fish should not be put into an aquarium together as they will fight.
Another unusual and fascination fact about the Clown fish is that all Clown fish are born males then they morph into a female, the largest fish in the group will be the female and if she dies a male wil change into a female to take over the group.
