Brackish water
Description
The Banjo Catfish is one of the most interesting of all the catfish family, they have the appearance of a bumpy rock, brown in color with little specks of black, because of their camouflage this makes them excellent hiders.
These fish have the nickname of invisible fish and some people feel a little let down as they find it hard to catch a glimpse of them during the day this is because they are asleep under the sand or between a rock and actually appear to be dead.
They are ideal for beginners because of their peaceful nature and can be kept with almost any fish, even the smaller ones. They can be kept in groups but do quite well alone. Banjo Catfish are one of the easier fish when it comes to fish care needs.
They are native to the Amazon River and can grow up to 6 inch in length.
Fish Care
Housing
The tank temperature should be kept at 68-82 with a ph balance of (5.8-7.8) Banjo Catfish are nocturnal most of the day and like to hide on the bottom of the tank in the sand. Place some rocks, caves plants and driftwood in the tank, it is a good idea to put white sand in the bottom of the tank as otherwise you may not see your fish for a few days.
Be careful when handling these fish as they can growl when picked up and even give you a little nip.
Feeding
Banjo Catfish are carnivores; therefore prefer to eat protein foods such as blood worms, shrimp pellets, spirulina pellets, earthworms, and tubifex they will also eat flakes and tablets that have sunk to the bottom of the tank.
An ideal time to feed them is at night just after you turn out the lights to go to bed the Banjo Catfish will then come to life and need feeding.
