Fish Care Description
Freshwater
The X-ray Tetra (Pristella Maxillaris) gets its unusual name from the fact that the swim bladder and scale line markings are visible, resembling an x-ray, the rest of the body is opaque and the anal and caudal fins are red, the dorsal fin is black, yellow and white.
They are native to Brazil, Guiana, Venezuela and Guyana where they are sometimes found in brackish waters but generally prefer acidic and alkaline waters.
Housing
The X-ray fish is one of the easiest fish to keep and breed, but you must remove the adults when they have spawned. They are a good fish for beginners and are very peaceful but can get a little skittish when placed with much larger fish.
The tank size should be at least 50 liters with a temperature of (7.2-8.0) with slightly acidic soft water ph balance of (6.8-7.5) these fish like to be kept in groups of 8 – 10 and being very shy need lots of plants to hide in when feeling threatened.
Feeding
X-ray tetras are omnivore therefore will eat most aquarium foods; they also like Live and frozen foods, flakes and pellets. They can get a little greedy so be careful not to overfeed.
