Fish Care Description
Freshwater
The Penguin tetra (Thayeria Boehlkei) is one of the most striking of all tetra, with a silver colored lower half of body and a shiny golden upper half, divided by a black band running the full length of the body from head to tail.
They are native to Peru, Western Brazil and the slow moving waters of the Amazon basin. They grow up to 2.5 inch and have a lifespan of 3-5 years.
Housing
The ideal tank size should be a minimum of 50 liters with a temperature of (7.2-8.2) the water should be soft and a ph of (6.8-7.8)
Live plants should be added to the aquarium along with rocks and driftwood to enhance their natural environment, with a clear swimming space in the middle front section. They are calm peaceful fish that will not harm other aquarium fish, they swim in shoals therefore it is advised to buy 6-8 or more. They have a unique way of swimming in a zigzag motion with their head tilted downwards towards the bottom.
Feeding
These fish are omnivores and will accept a wide variety of fish foods such as flakes, micro pellets, brine shrimp, tubifex, daphnia and bloodworms.
