Lemon Tetra (hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis)
Description
Freshwater
The Lemon Tetra is a peaceful, quite hardy and easy to keep fish, ideal for beginners. They are small fish with beautiful brightly colored yellow and black markings on the dorsal and anal fins.
They are native to South America and can grow up to 2inch with a lifespan of around 6-8 years if given the right conditions.
Housing
The Lemon tetra prefer to be kept in groups of 6 or more and as they can be a little timid and nervous it is a good idea to plant tall plants like the Wisteria or Cabomba giving them lots of places to hide.
The tank temperature should be kept at (7.7-8.0) with a ph range between (6.8-7.5)
Suitable companions for these fish are small Barbs, Danios, Rasboras and Dwarf Cichlid. To tell the sex of the Lemon tetra examine the black line along the anal fin, a female will have a very fine black line as if drawn with a pencil and the male will have a much thicker black line.
Feeding
The Lemon tetra like to eat most frozen and live foods like freeze dried Tubifew worms and brine shrimp or flakes, but they must be cut up so they are small enough for the Lemon tetra to get into their mouths.
