Fish Care Description
Freshwater
The Golden barb (Barbus schuberti) has been a popular aquarium fish for many years as it stands out above the rest with its beautiful yellow to golden colored body and a row of black spots running from head to tail and red fins,
This hardy and active fish is found in rivers and standing waters of Asia and China, Pakistan and India, they will grow up to 4 inch with a lifespan of 5-6 years.
Housing
The Golden barbs are middle to bottom swimmers and need lots of swimming room with plants around the sides of the tank and a dark substrate to set off the lovely Gold color of the fish.
The tank size should be no smaller than 20 gallons and the temperature should be between (7.2-7.9) the water should have a ph of (6.8-7.5) as they are peaceful fish they can be mixed with most other fish of a similar nature.
Feeding
Golden Barbs will eat most types of food like high quality flake foods, crustaceans, detritus, insects, live worms and boiled zucchini, they are quite greedy feeders so make sure there is enough food left for the other fish in the aquarium.
