Giant DanioFish Care Description

Freshwater

The Giant Danio is one of the largest of the Danio family, growing up to 6 inch in length when maturity is reached. The body of the fish is a beautiful deep gold/yellow color with dark blue mottled stripes running along the elongated body. These fish look very attractive under the lights of the aquarium as their color seems to change when the light hits them.

They are native to Asia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India where they live in rivers or tropical fast flowing streams high up in the mountains; they have a lifespan of 3-5 years.

Housing

The Giant Danio will need a large tank of at least 30 gallon to give plenty of swimming room as they can grow up to 6 inch in length and as they should be purchased in groups of 2 or 3 they will take up most of the tank. The temperature of the tank should be kept at (7.2-8.1) with a ph of (6.8-7.6)

They are quite easy to keep and get along with most other fish, but can frighten smaller more timid fish with their boisterous nature and very fast movements. A tight fitting lid is a must for these fish as they can jump quite high.

Feeding

Giant Danios are Omnivores therefore will need meaty foods and vegetables in their diet; they will eat good quality flakes, brine shrimps, blanched lettuce and pellets. They are very quick to feed so check the other fish in the aquarium are getting their share.
