Frontosa fish in aquariumDemasoni Cichlids

Fish Care Description

(freshwater)

The Demasoni Cichlid is a very striking fish with a black body and white vertical striped bands. They are native to Lake Malawi and grow up to 4 inch in length. They are quite easy to keep for beginners but can be quite aggressive so need to be put with fish of a similar nature.

Housing

The tank should be a minimum of 40 gallons with a temperature of (7.4-8.0) the water should be well oxygenated with a ph of (6.5-7.5) the tank should be planted with hardy plants and lots of rocks piled up into caves.

Because of the very aggressive nature of the Demasoni Cichlid, they should only be kept with fish of a similar size or larger as the Demasoni cichlid will take on and fight any fish even the larger more aggressive fish in the aquarium.

To help stop this aggression Ideally they should be purchased in groups of 8-10 with only 1 male, if kept in smaller groups the male fish will chase and sometimes kill the other females.

It also helps to provide lots of little nooks and crannies and caves etc which they can claim as their territory. They are very curious fish and need lots of distractions to stop them becoming aggressive.

Feeding

The Demasoni Cichlids are vegetarians and should be fed a variety of foods like Cichlid Flakes and pellets, Krill and frozen foods, dried seaweed spirulina flakes and spinach.
