Fish Care Description
Freshwater
The Cardinal Tetra (Paracheirodon Axelrodii) have vivid blue and red stripes running from nose to start of tail and when kept in shoals of 10 or 12 will give your tank lots of color and interest, these fish are similar and closely related to the Neon tetra. They are very small and easy to keep growing up to 2 inch in length.
They are native to Upper Orinoco, Venezuela, Brazil, Eastern Colombia and rivers of South America.
Housing
The Cardinal Tetra are very timid therefore it is a good idea to keep tall plants in your aquarium such as the Cabomba, Amazon Swordplants, Vallisneria or the Elodea plant as these plants will give good coverage for the Cardinals to hide among when feeling threatened and as Cardinals do not like bright light the plants will give them dark areas to swim in.
The tank temperature should be kept at (7.2-8.0) the water should be middle to soft with a ph range of (6.7-7.4) with good filtration. The Cardinal tetras should be purchased in groups of at least 8 or more, the more the better. Cardinals will also shoal with their cousins the neon tetras and look very eye catching in the aquarium.
Feeding
The Cardinal Tetras are Omnivores therefore they will eat lots of different types of food, however some frozen and live foods should be added to the diet with blanched lettuce once or twice a week for fibre.
