They have a small disc shaped body, (very similar to the Angel fish) with a pointed snout which helps when getting food from small crevices. Description

The Archer fish has a compressed elongated body with a flat face; the body color is silver with a greenish/brown back and 4 or 5 black bars running vertically across its body.

These fish are named Archer fish because of their unique ability to shoot down insects from just above the water surface, they do this by putting their tongue on the roof of their mouth which forms a tube, they suddenly close their gills and water is forced up and out of the tube reaching up to a 3 metre distance. The Banjo Catfish is one of the most interesting of all the catfish family, they have the appearance of a bumpy rock, brown in color with little specks of black, because of their camouflage this makes them excellent hiders.

The moonfish get its name from the crescent shaped dark spot at the base of the tail which is more noticeable in the yellow colored variety, they are also known as Platies.

Clown Fish

Clown Fish

The Clown fish is very popular with most tropical fish enthusiast, this is mainly due to the cute little character Clown fish featured in the film Finding Nemo, but do not be fooled by his cute little actions, he can be very aggressive when protecting his territory.

These beautiful fish are to be found in the warmer waters of the Indian ocean or the Pacific ocean, where they live on the bottom of the sea among the Anemone in perfect harmony. 

They don’t seem to get stung from the tentacles this is due to the Clown fish having a slimy mucus coating, in fact the Anemone help to protect these little fish from other predators in the sea while they swim in between them and eat the anemones left over fish. Read the rest of this entry »
